Outdated Technology in a Decade of Discovery

How do you imagine the future? Do you see factories and companies polluting more the air we breathe or do you see a clean, safe place where our children and we can feel free to venture outside and not be worried of what we are breathing. In the future, I see a place where energy is created in an Earth-friendly manner and we are using the resources of this world to power our houses, instead of depleting and harming the world by our old methods of creating energy. Meanwhile, we have been using coal, natural gas and uranium to create energy to power our houses and it has been working well, but it is time for change; a change to renewable energy that will be good for us and the environment. Most of us have energy; the energy we get today is detrimental, archaic and not economical, but the future will give rise to energy that will be the complete opposite of today's energy.

The method of generating energy is detrimental to the world and people fear that the damage that has been done cannot be fixed. While burning coal to create heat and get energy is an inexpensive method people get energy in their houses, it has many downsides to it. The burning of coal causes carbon dioxide to enter the atmosphere, which deplete the ozone layer causing sun rays to penetrate at higher temperatures and bring with them more radiation. Nuclear energy has its perks like little air pollution and it is reliable, but the conviction that it causes benign and not as much destruction is incorrect. Have you heard of the Chernobyl disaster? Well it was a nuclear meltdown that killed thousands and turned the town into a ghost town because of the radiation that after 20 years still is in very high numbers. A meltdown is not the only awful end result of nuclear energy; people still need to deal with the nuclear waste because the waste need to be treated with precaution because it could cause nothing to grow or live in the land. Natural gas is the cleanest of all fossil fuels, but the burning of natural gas causes the release of nitrogen oxides in the atmosphere depleting the ozone layer. Renewable energy is not detrimental to the Earth because the energy is generated by what the Earth has like heat, wind and sun. No "green" method of creating energy will harm the planet because they are basically getting everything from the land and it is renewable compared to fossil fuels.

A new decade is about to begin and we are still relying on methods to generate energy from the early 1800s and we are in the 2000s. Everything has just about change in the world like phones, televisions, cars, etc., but energy is being left behind. Sure there are some wind turbines and some solar energy panels, but this need to advance into a global phenomenon. In this decade people are concerned about global warming and many are altering their mindset to become "green." It is time to revolutionize the energy companies and it will transpire thanks to geothermal, solar and wind power. Geothermal is using the heat produced by the Earth, solar is using the sun ray and wind power is using the wind to turn enormous turbines to create energy. Creating renewable energy and making it more reliable should be on everybody's mind because this is the only way to advance the technology.

The filthy energy that we get today depends on the supply of the resource, which makes it not an economical method of producing energy. Let's say that coal has a shortage, then to get the coal companies will have to pay more money and they will raise the cost to the consumer. More people are going to be on this planet in the not to distant future, which means more energy will be needed and there is a certain amount of a resource. Once the resource diminishes the cost of energy will skyrocket. Renewable energy will be inexpensive because there is an infinite supply of the resource, unless the sun goes away, and a myriad amount of energy generators. Renewable energy will form more jobs because there are going to be more energy plants, which will need maintenance. Another way that renewable energy is economical is that many people are going through a "green" phase that alters their lifestyles into doing everything to help the planet and that is bound to bring millions because people would want to reduce their carbon foot print and give a better world for their children and grandchildren.

Renewable energy will shift this world's focus into one that cares about the environment and one that does not want to destroy something that has given them a lot. Fossil fuels will not be there forever, so it is better to start changing our lavish ways of wasting the fuels and start thinking about the consequences of not having renewable energy. Can you imagine a world where there is no pollution and many diseases caused by the pollution have gone away? Renewable energy will give our children a world that we could have only imagined.

Editor's Note: From solar and wind to geothermal and biofuels, Green Chip readers want to know which renewable energy resource will take over where fossil fuels leave off. The answer is...all of the above!

There is no one single solution to today's energy crisis. However, the combination of all viable renewable energy resources, coupled with energy efficiency, conservation and smart grid development will not only lead us to energy independence and a cleaner, more sustainable energy infrastructure — but also to what will soon prove to be the greatest investment opportunity of the 21st Century.
