Comments (IKEA has recently announced plans to install PV solar panels this summer at two east coast distribution centers, one in Perryville, Maryland and the other in Westampton, New Jersey.
These projects will immediately join the ranks of the largest commercial rooftop solar installations in the nation. In addition, this move will result in 89% of the company's locations to be powered by solar.
The power generated at the two centers will have a combined capacity of 4.92 MW. IKEA will own and operate its PV solar systems rather than enter into a PPA or a solar lease. When these two new systems are installed, it will bring IKEA’s tally up to 19 solar energy systems operational in the US with another 20 in various stages of completion.
“We are excited at the opportunity to increase our US solar presence further with solar energy systems atop these two east cost distribution centers…with only 44 locations nationwide, we try to contribute whenever and wherever possible to creating a better everyday life for the many. These plans for installing solar panels on the roofs of two additional distribution centers demonstrate our sustainable commitment extends beyond just stores, into all facets of the retail operations,” IKEA’s US president Mike Ward stated.
