Green Energy is the Solution

As I look around every day and watch the news on television, I feel as if America is digging a deeper hole as far as gaining energy independence from sources like coal and oil. There is a strong effort to pull ourselves out of this hole from many organizations. Unfortunately, the fight is ongoing, and there are many who constantly try to slow efforts towards a cleaner America. I strongly support the transition from dirty coal and oil to efficient, renewable resources for the energy to power America.

As costs for everything from groceries to gasoline continue to rise, people of America search for a refuge; something that will not inflate to an outrageous price at any given time. With the costs of not solving our economic and climate crises growing every day, green energy is our solution.

I constantly hear stories of people and their families suffering from unemployment because of the economic crisis. With this transition, millions of high-paying jobs will be made, putting hard-working Americans back to work, which will benefit everyone in these tough economic times.

I am concerned that my generation will not be able to live in a clean world of energy efficiency. Putting our future into the hands of those who refuse to support clean energy is disconcerting and unfair to the future America. Using fuel that pollutes and damages the Earth is part of the past; new clean energy technology makes us able to visualize and capture energy from sources that will not diminish, like the sun and the wind, and turn them into something Americans can use every day. I support having green power for America because I believe a healthy Earth for America and the world is vital for our future.

We need to act fast to change the way that we obtain the energy to run our homes and businesses. We are quickly running out of time, and the earth is quickly diminishing because of inefficient energy byproducts. However, if we act with haste, we can still save mother earth. It is a known fact that no organism can live in its own waste. That is the condition that we as humans are driving our world into: a wasteland. As President Barack Obama said during his inauguration speech, "Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America." We as a nation need to stand up and make a change in the way that the energy we use every day is acquired.

Editor's Note: From solar and wind to geothermal and biofuels, Green Chip readers want to know which renewable energy resource will take over where fossil fuels leave off. The answer is...all of the above!

There is no one single solution to today's energy crisis. However, the combination of all viable renewable energy resources, coupled with energy efficiency, conservation and smart grid development will not only lead us to energy independence and a cleaner, more sustainable energy infrastructure — but also to what will soon prove to be the greatest investment opportunity of the 21st Century.
