Although most of us won't be able to lay eyes on it until next year, Ford has finally given us a sneak peak at its new Focus Electric.

Featured on the company's website is a new page focused entirely on the company's new electric offering. And I have to say, this thing looks pretty impressive. I have little doubt that when this vehicle hits showrooms, it'll prove to be a major game-changer.

Here are a few highlights:

focus1

The Focus Electric gets all of its power from an advanced high-voltage lithium-ion battery system, and its electric motor is designed to help reduce energy loss and heat generation while reducing your carbon footprint.

focus2

The Focus Electric will offer an mpg equivalent competitive with other electric vehicles on the market. We're guessing around 100 miles per charge. It also comes with a suite of advanced driver information technology to help you better manage your energy consumption.

focus3

A unique mobile app from Ford lets you monitor and schedule the charging of your vehicle. It provides remote charging status updates, and also shows you where you can find the nearest charging stations and most efficient route to get there.

focus5

Ford's regenerative braking technology helps you achieve maximum energy efficiency by capturing more than 90 percent of the energy normally lost as heat during braking, and recycles it to recharge the battery.

focus4

The Brake Coach feature helps you optimize the use of the car's regenerative brakes. It displays a graphic that shows the amount of energy captured each time you stop.

focus6

The standard cloth seat fabric in the Focus Electric is made from 100 percent post-industrial materials. These are polyester fibers that would've ended up in the landfills. The cushions also use a bio-based polyurethane foam derived from plant seeds.

And of course, the design of the vehicle will put to rest any misconceptions you may have about what electric cars are supposed to look like. Ford's design team delivered a stylish vehicle that will have no trouble impressing. Take a look:

Editor's Note: From solar and wind to geothermal and biofuels, Green Chip readers want to know which renewable energy resource will take over where fossil fuels leave off. The answer is...all of the above!

There is no one single solution to today's energy crisis. However, the combination of all viable renewable energy resources, coupled with energy efficiency, conservation and smart grid development will not only lead us to energy independence and a cleaner, more sustainable energy infrastructure — but also to what will soon prove to be the greatest investment opportunity of the 21st Century.
