Clean Coal Gets Dirtier

Fake Letters Sent by Coal Lobby

By Nick Hodge

If you haven't been keeping tabs on clean coal's latest swindle, this should make you shudder.

Not only is clean coal the epitome of an oxymoron, the picture it paints of its represented industry is downright false. Show me one active commercial scale clean coal plant.

There isn't one.

But if that's not bad enough, the clean coal lobby is now sending fabricated letters to our elected officials.

The story, which broke a few weeks ago, now has a new, condemning twist.

It was originally found that 12 fake letters were sent to members of Congress, urging them to vote against U.S. energy and climate change bill. The letters were supposedly from grassroots organizations.

That, as it turns out, was just another clean coal lie.

It was learned this week that the letters were actually sent by disgraceful lobbying firm Bonner & Associates on behalf of none other than the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity.

But what do you expect from an organization fervently supporting something that doesn't exist?

Members of that coalition include BHP Billiton, Peabody Energy, and Chevron Mining.

If this makes you angry. . . you need to react. This incident is already under investigation by a congressional committee, but you can do your part as well.

Write your Congressman. Write your Senator. Tell them how disgusted you are.

And most importantly, make sure your portfolio has no exposure to the companies responsible, either directly or through a fund.

As you can see, the enemy is taking bold action. Bold action is required in return.

Call it like you see it,

—Nick
